“The changing light of day and the mood it creates are the foundations for my watercolors. The play of light on a subject can transform ordinary objects into stunning images. My goal is to create a unity between the objects, the light, and the viewer.”
Gina Lijoi began her art career with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design. After having worked several years as a graphic artist, she discovered her love for watercolors. "I have always been fascinated by the sunlight's power as it gently moves over objects." Combining this beautiful light with her strong knowledge of composition has become the backbone to her artwork. Gina grew up in West Virginia, and spent summers in southern Italy with her family. Many of her resources for her paintings come from her travels. She has her studio in Reno, Nevada, as well as a studio in Italy for when she travels abroad.
Gina is a signature member of the California Watercolor Association and the
West Virginia Watercolor Society, and a member of the National Watercolor Society and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America. Locally, Gina is a member of the Nevada Museum of Art, Sierra Arts Foundation, and the Sierra Watercolor Society where she served as Vice President and Workshop Coordinator.
